Clearswift: Leading Provider of Advanced Content Threat Protection

Content threat protection technology has become imperative for organizations to achieve compliance in many areas of business. Deep Content Inspection when coupled with Data Loss Prevention (DLP) functionality provides IT security teams with a 360- degree view of information flow across the organization’s boundary, along with granular control of security policy to enable automated enforcement. The technology ultimately enables highly secure digital collaboration; mitigating advanced information borne threats as well as data leaks or unauthorized data acquisition. With a continuous focus on innovation, Clearswift delivers its advanced content protection technology to government, defense and multi-national financial organizations around the world.

In an interview with CIO LOOK, Dr. Guy Bunker, CTO of Clearswift discusses the company’s technology portfolio and why it is trusted by some of the most sensitive intelligence agencies across the globe.

Below are the highlights of the interview between Guy Bunker and CIO LOOK:

What led to the inception of the company?

The company can trace its roots back to 1982 when email was emerging into the business world. We effectively developed the first email application for MS-DOS before moving onto providing email security solutions for both Windows and UNIX. However, in 2012, the company was acquired and significant investment injected into the business for technology innovation, together with a new vision and focus on Advanced Threat Protection and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).

How do your services differ from the other companies’ offerings?

Clearswift has created a series of nextgeneration email and web security solutions which also overcome the problems of traditional DLP solutions. Our Adaptive Redaction technology enables content to be changed on-thefly as it crosses the organizational boundary, preventing the need to stop and block content, and hinder communication flow. The Deep Content Inspection engine built into all Clearswift products enables A-DLP to seamlessly remove advanced information borne threats, such as ransomware delivered in weaponized documents, from inbound/outbound email and web downloads/uploads. Our advanced Information Governance solution enables the ability to track and trace information at a sub-file level, creating a previously unseen level of granular protection. Our recent innovations enable the redaction of text (black box) from images, not just from documents. Antisteganography technology can be deployed to prevent data loss as well as protection from next-generation malware hidden in innocuous-looking images that executes when inside a network.

Give a detailed description of the featured person’s influence over the company and the industry

I joined Clearswift in 2012 as part of an executive turnaround team and was tasked with creating a new technology vision which could be implemented to help reinvigorate the Clearswift brand. By looking into the heritage of the organization and at the existing technology, the idea of Adaptive Redaction was created. With several years’ experience in DLP, I understood where the shortcomings were with traditional solutions and that with Clearswift, there was the opportunity to change the game. Traditional DLP is about stopping and blocking communication which slows collaboration and creates business risk, however, overzealous policies frequently led to false-positive events whereby communication was unnecessarily halted, resulting in the solutions being disabled – creating data loss risk. A-DLP was developed to remove only the smallest piece of information from an email or a document which broke policy as it traveled across the organizational boundary via email or the web, while leaving the rest to be delivered unhindered, overcoming the issues of traditional DLP and the pesky ’false positive’. In conjunction with A-DLP, I oversaw the acquisition of two small companies which enabled Clearswift to move our DLP solution onto the endpoint as well as the gateways, resulting in inclusion to the Gartner analyst Magic Quadrant for Enterprise DLP. I also led the innovation of our Information Governance solution, which can track and trace information across the organization and its boundary. Rather than tracking just files, it can track the information inside the files, protecting classified information at a more granular scale than was previously possible.

Workplace Conflict and Resolution | Workstation culture | CIOLook

Conflicts are a part of human life and have been the reason for co-existence of people throughout times. However, slightest bit of a wavy tone or a hint of aggression and things could go down hill from there. This could often happen under closed and restricted settings such as one’s workplace Conflicts could be a major problem if not dealt with in the proper manner and might create an awkward working situation.

It is illogical to expect everything in life to flow smoothly without any sort of misunderstandings and conflicts. When in comes to leadership, leaders and conflicts go hand in hand and it is often a talent when one learns to embrace it. There are few tried and tested methods that have been known to resolve this sort of tension.

  1. Keep ego out when you walk through the door

This might seem bookish and maybe even impossible, but this is a method that has seen the best results. When in such a close vicinity within other people there should always be personal boundaries that everyone should respect and a certain set of guidelines that everyone should follow. Keeping and maintaining a personal distance works best for everyone.

2. Having unclarified roles at the workplace

This might even be the most frustrating thing, but when one does not know the defined role they have been assigned, they could be a little put off. It is the managers job to find and assign titles to everyone in his/her team and it may sometime happen so that maybe some people might not find the dismissal of this concern. Everyone should be assigned their job descriptions appropriately to avoid any sort of disagreement.

  1. Blame game

This could easily be the most convenient reason for any sort of office conflict and this should be avoided at any cost. This sort of argument is caused because of the dire need to be right all the time. This again co relates with the one with the ego. This just means that, everyone goes through changes and tends to make mistakes and this a part of the learning curve. Acceptance is the biggest gesture of all and it would all make sense in the end and blaming anyone for a mistake does not help.

  1. Restricting conversation

This in no ways mean do not be friends with your colleague, this just means when talking about anything related to a business or the company, one should just restrict to speaking about the companies goal and companies interest at heart. The main goal always lies in the bigger picture.

Biggest Problems associated with Leadership

This has been said time and again that leaders are born that way. But this is a false statement and contradicts the actual meaning of leadership. A leader is a person who the masses look upto to lead them through the tough roads and a leader may or may not be born into leadership. Great leaders are often made through the turmoil of time. However, being a leader is no piece of cake and is tougher than it sounds.

The worst aspect of being a leader is that, no one ever teaches you how to do it. It is a come as it may sort of street and leaders have to adapt and develop according to experience. This a tough path and sometimes may end up being the turmoil of the entire company.

Leadership often comes with its pros and cons and below mentioned are four of the major CON’S of Leadership:

1. Lack of Communication

Building ground rules and keeping the company up and running might seem like an easy thing, but it is utter waste if the leaders fail to communicate effectively. Communication is key, but so is comprehension and making sure that the news effectively reaches the masses and has been put to appropriate action is the job of the leader.

Having an optimum communication system with employees and stakeholders could dramatically increase progress.

2. Firing employees

This does not come as a surprise that once a team has become a close knit family, it becomes tougher to expel someone because of their ineffectiveness. Here, the outlook on the bigger picture is important as when it comes to the company, sloppiness cannot be tolerated. The fear of having to fire someone goes hand in hand when it comes to being a leader. One just needs to accept the standing of their decree and face the situation head-on.

3. Lacking a vision

A leader should be clear about his/her vision and should have a well established plan that has to be implemented. When asked about the company’s future and goals, they should have an estimated script with them. This in no ways means bluffing about the workings of the company, but rather having a clear vision that inspires the company and could tender to its growth.

4. Defective Company Culture

There are other defects of leadership that could be tampered with to make them work, but once the company culture has been hampered, there is no going back. A leader becomes a successful leader only when the companies people believe in it and feel that the leader could help take the company to great heights. Having a healthy company culture is just as important as having a plan for the companies future. Without either the companies downfall is inevitable and its a leaders responsibility to make sure that these two function in harmony.

A Summit over $850 bn Coronavirus Stimulus Package, EU Leaders; Reports

According to the various reports, the pioneers of the European Union are holding their first up close and personal highest point in quite a while, yet the gathering in Brussels appears to be probably not going to connect their partition over a post-coronavirus monetary salvage plan. The EU has been dove into a noteworthy financial mash by the coronavirus emergency, and EU authorities have drawn up plans for $850bn boost bundle to lead their nations out of lockdown. Be that as it may, a decided band of northern capitals, drove by Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s Netherlands, are holding out against giving out money to their southern neighbors without severe conditions joined.
The reports also suggested that discussions are relied upon to run into Saturday and maybe even Sunday, yet not many here are sure of an achievement, in spite of the tight schedule, so another culmination may well follow in the not so distant future. Highest point have Charles Michel, the leader of the European Council, has attempted to make a feeling of force after past coronavirus-period video meetings served uniquely to underline the pioneers’ disparities. In any case, idealism was hard to find as the pioneers assembled in the Belgian capital, some showing up before the expected time just before the highest point to have private conversations before the headliner.

European ambassadors said the Netherlands would keep on demanding that part states hold the option to veto any joint obtaining by the EU to back credits to individuals. What’s more, they need any advances or awards to accompany severe conditions appended to guarantee that intensely obliged nations like Spain and Italy do changes, under European Commission oversight.

This is restricted by the south. Both Michel and Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose nation has quite recently taken on the moving half year administration of the EU, will battle to facilitate any trade off.

“We’re open to reaching an arrangement this weekend, but if there won’t be an agreement we are open to more negotiations later on,” Dutch Foreign Minister Stef says.

“Finding agreement will require hard work and political will on the part of all. Now is the time. A deal is essential,” as per reports, he wrote to invite the leaders back to Brussels.

“We will need to find workable solutions and come to an agreement, for the greater benefit of our citizens,” he adds.

Amazon to roll out Big Delivery Trucks

According to the various reports, Amazon.com is propelling another armada of greater, boxier trucks like those supported by rival bundle transporters United Parcel Service Inc and FedEx Corp, as it battles to fix far reaching pandemic-powered conveyance defers that sent clients into the arms of contenders like Walmart Inc. The various reports also stated that the world’s biggest online retailer requested in excess of 2,200 rock solid Utilimaster “stroll in” conveyance trucks from Shyft Group SHYF.O, a Michigan-based strength vehicle organization. The organization declined to state what number of the vehicles have been sent to Amazon conveyance contractual workers, or where they would be conveyed.

The reports also suggested that drivers appointed to the new trucks preparing materials from Wisconsin-based security and consistence consultancy J.J. Keller and Associates, which affirmed that Amazon is a customer. The Shyft Group didn’t react to demands for input.

As per the various sources, one of the new Amazon trucks was seen as of late working in Chicago. While Amazon bought the vehicles a year ago, the marked trucks have been left for quite a long time in areas around the United States, remembering for Amazon parts in New Jersey and California dairy nation. The organization declined to state why it stood by so long to reveal the new armada. Drivers acquainted with the new vehicles said they can convey more and greater bundles than the Mercedes-Benz (DAIGn.DE), Fiat Chrysler (FCHA.MI), and Ford Motor Co (F.N) vans Amazon contractual workers dispatch around the nation.

Various reports also suggested that Amazon experienced harsh criticism a year ago after ProPublica, BuzzFeed and different media sources gave an account of Amazon’s preparation practices and van mishaps that brought about wounds and passing. Amazon stated in an email Friday that van drivers must experience preparing that incorporates two days of study hall guidance and two days of ride-along with experienced drivers. Two drivers, who declined to be named inspired by a paranoid fear of reprisal, picked not to change to the new vehicles since they are heavier and harder to move than Amazon vans.

Amazon suspended its upstart Amazon Shipping program for non-Amazon bundles in June to organize conveyances to its own clients. Amazon declined to state whether the new armada would be utilized to restart that administration, which contends straightforwardly with UPS and FedEx.
